Coproduction Office reports strong sales on 3 Cannes titlesCoproduction Office is pleased to announce a series of deals for their three Cannes titles: Competition entry TENDER SON - The Frankenstein Project by Kornél Mundruczó, AURORA by Cristi Puiu (Un Certain Regard), and Directors’ Fortnight sensation LE QUATTRO VOLTE by Michelangelo Frammartino, which received the Europa Cinemas Prize for the Best European Film at Directors’ Fortnight. Several of the sales involve more than one title. LE QUATTRO VOLTE sold in 12 territories, deals in 8 territories pending ! LE QUATTRO VOLTE, which has been creating strong buzz while delighting critics and audiences alike, has sold to New Wave for the UK along with Puiu’s AURORA, the follow up to his Un Certain Regard Prize winning THE DEATH OF MR LAZARESCU. LE QUATTRO VOLTE was also picked up by Alta Classics for Spain, Circuito Cinearte for Brazil, Zeta Films for Argentina, Filmware for Taiwan and IRIB Media Group for Iran. Deals for France, Germany, Japan, Austria, Canada, Australia, Denmark, and Poland are nearly finalized. The Quinzaine favorite will already have sold to nearly 20 territories as the festival comes to a close and is “rapidly becoming the sales breakout of Cannes” according to Variety’s John Hopewell. LE QUATTRO VOLTE emerged as a surprise hit at Cannes after official and market screenings played to a packed house and received a rare standing ovation. “Le Quattro Volte is a unique film about man’s relationship with the earth. It is simple and joyous, a film that should be seen by everyone. The film makes us want to believe and brings perspective on our place in the world. Alive and essential, it is a great accomplishment for a filmmaker. My personal coup de coeur for the year.” commented Directors’ Fortnight director Frédéric Boyer, who declared the film his personal favourite of the selection. TENDER SON - The Frankenstein Project, the third film by Hungarian director Kornél Mundruczó to be selected in Cannes, was picked up by Leopart for the CIS along with Mundruczó’s 2008 FIPRESCI prize winner DELTA. Deals on TENDER SON for Poland (along with LE QUATTRO VOLTE), and the Czech Republic are in final negotiations and are set be concluded shortly. TENDER SON, LE QUATTRO VOLTE and AURORA were all three licensed to Lumière for Belgium, Eye Film for the Netherlands, Clap Filmes for Portugal, and Megacom for the territories of former Yugoslavia. An agreement for all three films is also nearly signed for Austria. |
