Lou Ye

Lóu Yè, born in 1965, is a Chinese film director. He is part of the so called “Sixth Generation” of Chinese filmmakers who have become internationally influential due to their somber and partly critical observations of modern Chinese society. He garnered international acclaim for his second feature film SUZHOU RIVER (2000) which won the prestigious Tiger Award in Rotterdam. He continued making international successful films PURPLE BUTTERFLY (2003), SUMMER PALACE (2006), and SPRING FEVER (2009) for which he has been invited to the competition of Cannes.
