Mercano is a Martian stranded in Buenos Aires. Soon, a multinational corporation eyes a global business opportunity in his virtual technology and kidnaps him. Allied with a motley gang of anti-technology hippies, Julian, a chubby nine year-old schoolboy who spends his happiest hours on www.mars.com, sets off fearlessly to liberate his dearest friend Mercano.

Juan Antin

 

 

Film director, scriptwriter and producer, Juan Antín was born in Buenos Aires in 1969. He studied Computer Science at the Universidad de Buenos Aires and Film Animation at the Instituto de Artes Cinematográficas de Avellaneda (Argentina); and 3D Animation at the NAD (Montreal Center, Canada) where he achieved a Softimage Instructor Certification. In 1998 he was a member of the Jury (Schools production category) of the Annecy International Film Animation Festival. He has been a lecturer in several Congresses, amongst them Le Carrefour de L´Image de L´Ocean Indien at Reunion Island, France, 1998.

 

 

Since 1998 he directs the Animation and Special Effects Dept. at the Universidad del Cine (Buenos Aires), where he is also an Instructor. Antín and partner Ayar Blasco created in 1998 the production company MALCRIADOS, responsible for several animation short films which aired on cable networks in Latin America. His latest production is the feature - length film MERCANO THE MARTIAN", which has been selected in the official competition of several film festivals, amongst them: Festival Internacional de Cine de San Sebastián (Spain), Festival del Nuevo Cine Latinoamericano de La Habana (Cuba), Berlín International Film Festival (Germany). MERCANO THE MARTIAN was awarded a Special Mention of the Jury in the Festival du Film d´Animation Annecy 2002 (Annecy, France), and the Audience Prize at the Festival de Cine Fantástico de Sitges (Barcelona, Spain).
